LOOKING TO STYLE YOUR SPACE?

Is there anything more intimidating than a blank wall that has endless possibilities?? When we bought our home a couple years ago, I was completely overwhelmed by all the empty wall space and I wanted to make sure I was using every inch in the best way possible. It took a lot of research (aka scrolling through Pinterest) and some trial and error to find the most cost effective yet impactful ways to fill up wall space. And because I like you so much, I’ve compiled all the easy DIY accent wall projects I’ve done to transform our home to inspire you to do the same! And don’t let the phrase “DIY” scare you; most of these projects are super beginner friendly!

Diy Accent Wall #1: Floating Shelves

My motto is: When in doubt, add the shelves. You either love floating shelves or you hate them, but I personally LOVE them. They are a great way to fill up a long wall and add so much visual interest to any space. Not to mention, they’re super functional! Easily customize to your style preference by choosing a wood stain and shelf brackets that tickles your fancy.

Diy Accent Wall #2: A Fireplace

I’m not completely sure this fits in the “accent wall” category but it does *technically* fill up wall space so I’m going to let it slide. Plus, this may be my absolute favorite DIY project we’ve ever done. Transform a blank, boring wall in any room to the COZIEST place in the house for under $500 with this electric fireplace insert! Diy Accent Wall #3: Board + Batten

I love this DIY accent wall so much I did it twice. Don’t want to spring for a pricey headboard? Add this to the wall behind your bed instead!  Or add some hooks and it’s a genius way to create a functioning entryway. Plus, it’s the perfect place to try out that fun paint color you’ve been eyeing!

Diy Accent Wall #4: Faux Shiplap

faux shiplap panelling

Thanks to Chip + Joanna, we’re all familiar with the shiplap accent wall. While I do think it’s a bit trendy, it’s still a beautiful way to add some texture and character to a wall. “Trendy” isn’t always bad and I personally think this diy accent wall  will age well when it’s done right.  If you’ve ever looked into the prices of shiplap, you probably choked on whatever you were eating just like I did. I wanted to install shiplap to the wall behind our bed and calculated that it would be around $300. Uh, no thanks.  Instead, I found this “faux shiplap wall panel” on Home Depot and it only cost $90 for the entire wall!!! I don’t think anyone could tell the difference unless they stuck their nose to the wall and saw it wasn’t individual planks. But like, who’s doing that?

I’m honestly convinced that there is nothing more satisfying than taking a plain old wall and turning it into something beautiful with your own two hands. Don’t be afraid to make your spaces your own and for the love of Pete, don’t feel like you have to break the bank to do it!!
